Sustainable Farming - Responsibly Growing Fresh Produce

SunSelect’s sustainable growing methods enable us to safely and responsibly grow fresh and healthy vegetables on the smallest amount of land possible. We produce food in an environmentally friendly fashion, without causing severe or irreversible damage to ecosystem health, and provide our customers with safe and affordable produce year-round.

SunSelect’s decision to build state-of-the-art, sustainable facilities was unanimous. We decided to invest millions of dollars in the construction of environmentally sound biomass energy systems. We now employ these specialty energy systems to create heat from recycled wood waste that we get from a local saw mill. This results in heating for all 70 acres of greenhouses, with only a fractional amount of carbon dioxide emission – equal to that which would be released when the plants decompose naturally.

In an effort to further reduce our energy consumption, we also introduced energy curtains. These white sheets are installed just under the greenhouses’ gables, and are adjustable with sliding screens that hold the warmth in at night.

The controlled environment of our greenhouses allow us to grow the perfect produce – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - without herbicides, pesticides or use of genetically modified pollen. Beehives are placed throughout the greenhouses and, when needed, ladybugs and preying mantises released as just two of the natural methods we employ to grow delicious vegetables.

And finally, our innovative technology allows us to grow our plants in “tiny” blocks of coconut husk waste, which are nourished by drip irrigation. There is no direct application of manures, smaller quantities of water are used, and there is no risk of groundwater contamination.

Our sustainable farming methods enable us to grow safe and always fresh produce for your family to enjoy, without damaging the health of the ecosystem.
